    LaFontsee Gallery teams with Helen DeVos Children's Hospital to fill hospital halls with healing art

    The Grand Rapids Press: "We would take proposals from just about anywhere," LaFontsee said. "This 'Call for Ideas' is directed toward anyone who has a valid idea that in the end will be something that's useful. We need to come up with enough variety to fill 14 floors. The challenge is to find enough diversity to accommodate the size and scale."

    Announcing an opportunity for artists to have their work be a part of the main lobby in the new Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. LaFontsee Galleries is seeking proposals for two and three-dimensional artwork which will help create a therapeutic environment supportive of health and healing for children, parents, staff, and visitors.

    Helen DeVos Children's Hospital chooses local

    After a national search, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital has selected Grand Rapids-based LaFontsee Galleries as the art consultant for its new 14-floor hospital slated to open in 2011. With over twenty years of consulting and supplying art for healthcare, corporate & hospitality organizations, LaFontsee Galleries will now provide and frame all artwork for the new hospital, partnering with other local organizations to create children's art specifically for the $286 million building.     "Defying Gravity- Jennifer McCurdy's Carved and Pierced Porcelain," a 6-page feature in Clay Times magazine, examines McCurdy's intricate designs and gracefully flowing forms. "I don't think of the porcelain as white, I consider it to be light and shadow," states McCurdy.

    David Huang Featured in Metalsmith Magazine

    LaFontsee Galleries artist David Huang
    is featured in the current issue of Metalsmith magazine. This six-page spread entitled "Inquire Within- The Holloware of David Huang", praises Huang for his "rich visual and metaphoric power of the interior surface, where the play of internally reflected light across the soft arches
    and pleats inside the vessel creates
    a luminous habitat for the object's
    living soul."
